Abstract
Neutrino beams from muon decays differ from "traditional" pi beam in their pure double flavour component. They are therefore extremely well-suited for the study of nu(mu) --> nu(e) oscillations. On the other hand, the presenc e of a large nu(e) component can result in a diminuished performance with r espect to traditional beams in the search for nu(mu) --> nu(tau) oscillatio ns, unless a distance with a very favourable signal/background ratio is cho sen.
