Abstract
Density functional theory is used to derive an approximative model which is similar for finite fermion clusters as diverse as nuclei or metal clusters . It naturally results in quantitatively comparable deformations of the mea n field for both nuclei and clusters. Linear nuclei, tetrahedral deformatio n and two-dimensional systems are also discussed.
