We use neutron scattering to demonstrate the presence of lattice polarons a
nd their short-range correlations fur several samples of La1-xCaxMnO3 in th
e Ca doping range 0.15 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.3. W
e establish the duping dependence of the orientation, commensuration, and c
oherence length of the polaron correlations and show that the populations o
f correlated and uncorrelated polarons are intimately related to the transp
ort properties of the materials.
