An investigation on the constituents of the fresh, uncrushed leaves of Euca
lyptus camaldulensis var. obtusa has led to the isolation of the triterpeno
id amirinic acid and four known triterpenoids ursolic acid lactone, betulin
ic acid, oleanolic acid and ursolic acid. Amirinic acid transformed into am
irolide in deuterated chloroform at room temperature. The new products were
characterized by exhaustive spectroscopic studies as 2 alpha,3 beta,7 beta
-trihydroxy-11 alpha-methoxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid and 2 alpha,3 beta,7 beta
-trihydroxyurs-11-en-28,13 beta-olide. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All r
