Lignin macrostructure in the cell membranes of pine wood was investigated e
xperimentally by transmission electron microscopy. The obtained data are us
ed to reconstruct the lignification dynamics of wood cells. Pseudophase por
traits were constructed in the spaces of various dimensions and the Heavisi
de correlation functions were calculated. Lignin of the secondary cell wall
is demonstrated to have a fractal structure. The lignification is proposed
to proceed in the dynamical mode of a strange attractor with a dimension o
f 3.7 +/- 0.4.
