Cold-crystallisation of polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) was studied by measuri
ng the electrical resistance of a continuous-carbon-fibre PPS-matrix compos
ite in the fibre direction during heating after cold-crystallisation. Melti
ng of PPS caused a peak in the plot of resistance vs, temperature. Cold-cry
stallisation was found to cause an extra peak at a lower temperature in thi
s plot, due to the melting of the portion of PPS that had undergone cold-cr
ystallisation. The resistance results are supported by calorimetry.
