Clarification of the role of Sb-Mo-O oxide phases in the synergetic effects between MoO3 and alpha-Sb2O4 in catalytic selective oxidation of hydrocarbons

Sb-Mo-O oxide phases, namely Sb2MoO6 and a mixture of Sb2Mo10O31 and Sb4Mo1
0O31, are not at the origin of the cooperation between MoO3 and alpha-Sb2O4
in the selective oxidation of isobutene. Their initial selectivity to meth
acrolein is weak and they decompose spontaneously during the reaction to si
mple Mo and Sb oxides. The consequence of the decompositon is an improvemen
t of the catalytic performances.
