This paper presents the results concerning Pd(2,2'-bipyridine)Cl-2 complex
encapsulated in Na(H)Y zeolite and its application in ethylene dimerization
. The catalysts were characterised by diffuse-reflectance UV-VIS spectrosco
py, IK spectroscopy and DTA/TG analysis. Their spectra presented the charac
teristic maximums of complexes. Ethylene conversion and its selectivity to
1 -and 2-C4H8 (cis and trans) as a function of reaction temperature are ana
lysed. Correlations between the nature of encapsulated complex species and
the catalytic activity and the selectivity to ethylene dimerization are est
ablished. The best results on Pd complex catalysts were obtained at 80 degr
ees C.
