Abstract
Ultrathin-layer isoelectric focusing (UTLIEF) of seed proteins soluble in 4 mmol l(-1) NaCl was used to discriminate tomato varieties. Eight polymorph ic protein bands were found on the gel with a pH range of 4-8, of which six bands were reported for the first time. About 87% of pairwise comparisons of the 11 varieties tested showed at least one different protein band. Almo st all varieties were found to be not homozygous genetically.
