Artificial superlattices of SrRuO3 and BaTiO3 were formed on SrTiO3 (110) s
ubstrates with various stacking periodicities and their magnetic and electr
ic properties were examined. The Curie temperature and the magnetization of
the superlattices decreased as the stacking periodicity decreased. Antifer
romagnetic behaviors and the anisotropy of resistivity were observed in a t
wo- by five-layer (2/5) superlattice. Low-dimensional effects appeared stro
ngly in the 2/5 superlattice. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights res
