Abstract
The 1994 Health Promotion Survey was the first large state-wide telephone s urvey of randomly selected respondents in New South Wales, Australia. condu cted by the state Department of Health. in addition to general health quest ions, the number of sexual partners in the last 12 months was asked of resp ondents 50 years and under, condom use was asked of respondents sexually ac tive in the past year aged 40 and under and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS were asked. The majority of respondents had one sexual partner in the last 12 m onths (77.5 per cent), 10.2 per cent had had two or more sexual partners an d 12.3 per cent had had no sexual partners in the past year. Condom use 'al ways' was reported by 21.1 per cent of men. The results confirm other sexua l health research that has highlighted men and younger persons as at highes t sexual health risk.
