Nine rabbits presented signs of neurological disturbance and died after exp
erimentally fed fresh leaves of Trema micrantha. At a rate of 35 g/kg bw, t
he plant proved toxic to rabbits. Clinical Features and macroscopic lesions
were similar to those described in Trema tomentosa poisoning. Main histolo
gical findings were degenerative and necrotic lesions affecting liver and t
he central nervous system.
