Abstract
This paper describes an evolutionary algorithm with two phases for the topo logy optimization of laminates. In the first phase the principal stress dir ections are used to decide where material can be removed. In the second pha se a kind of a "hard-kill" method is used to remove low-stressed material. Several examples of rectangular laminate plates show the effectiveness of t he algorithm presented.
