I have not known a time when beekeepers were more pessimistic than they are
today. The mites are killing our bees, our major medications, including th
ose that are used to control the mites and foul-brood are losing their effe
ctiveness, new pests are ready to pounce upon us, and perhaps, worst of all
, the price of honey is down, way down, To be sure, these are not the best
of times for beekeepers, but there were other poor times and we survived an
d some evert flourished. This is a story about a beekeeper who found himsel
f irt bad times and used his bees and hard work, lots of hard work, to pull
himself out of a poor situation and propel himself into a better one, one
that many of us might even envy. I find his story both interesting and insp
iring, and offer it as a potential source of inspiration to all the "Other
Side's" readers, who feel discouraged about the current state of beekeeping
.
