H. Bloemen et al., The cosmic background at 0.75-30 MeV: A different view using COMPTEL's full imaging capability, ASTROPHYS L, 39(1-6), 1999, pp. 681-684
We present a COMPTEL spectrum of the isotropic gamma-ray background that wa
s obtained through a very different technique than used in our earlier work
, but the results are in good agreement. No evidence for the 'MeV-bump' is
seen. Previously, we determined the celestial isotropic emission by first i
dentifying different instrumental background sources and then subtracting t
hese from the total background spectrum. Now we have fully utilized the COM
PTEL imaging capability to separate the uniform celestial emission from the
instrumental background (and the non-isotropic galactic radiation).
