We study an X-ray burst from the well-known X-ray transient X1608-522. The
burst, which was observed with the BeppoSAX Wide Field cameras, had a peak
luminosity of about 5 Crab. Spectral properties and temporal behaviour of t
his Type I X-ray burst are analysed within the framework of previous observ
ations. The double-peaked Light curve at high photon energies suggests a pe
ak luminosity close to the Eddington limit. Based on this assumption, the s
ource distance is estimated to be 4 kpc.
