Abstract
Modelling results for the study of the efficiency of gamma-ray line emissio n from magnetized accreting neutron stars are discussed. It is shown that c ollisionless stopping of accreting matter can occur after the magnetized fl ow has traversed a column density of similar to 10(24) cm(-2) in the accret ion column in a transient regime. This provides a possibility for conversio n of the accreting power into gamma-ray line emission with an efficiency up to a percent. Transient gamma-ray line emission of bright accreting source s may be detectable by INTEGRAL for distances up to a few kpc.
