A deep exposure on the Galactic Centre region has been performed using the
WFC imaging detectors on board BeppoSAX during the period 1996-98. New tran
sients have been discovered and persistent source variability has been moni
tored over this period. The most intriguing result is the high rate of X-ra
y bursting sources implying the presence of neutron stars (NS). In fact, 13
new bursters have been detected for the first time increasing by similar t
o 56% the number of this class in a region 40x40 squared degrees around the
Galactic Centre.
