The full crowns made by 11 commercial dental laboratories in Melbourne, Aus
tralia, were surveyed over a two-month period, The survey was designed to f
ind which teeth were crowned and what types of full crowns were prescribed.
Maxillary central incisors were found to be the most frequently crowned te
eth (15.6 per cent) and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns were the most commo
nly prescribed type of crown (82.9 per cent). This study may form a baselin
e with which other Australian studies may be compared and contrasted.
