Jc. Joud et al., ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATIONS OF ACID -BASE PROPERTIES OF PASSIVELAYERS - APPLICATION TO STAINLESS-STEELS, Revue de métallurgie, 94(5), 1997, pp. 643
The adhesion properties of a polymer on a solid substrate are mainly c
ontrolled by acid-base type intermolecular interactions existing betwe
en various radicals of polymer chains and certain surface sites of the
solid. In this context, the characterization of passive films and the
ir interface with an aqueous electrolyte as well as the conditions for
establishing an electric field through the film are described, with a
special mention given to iron-chrome alloys. Finally, we will present
various measures that can lead to an approach to surface acido-basici
ty. These approaches can be completed by electropolarity studies and t
he wettability of the interface. Experimental results are presented fo
r a silica surface and a FeCr alloy surface.
