Abstract
With their increased power and versatility, today's computer networks are b ecoming used for an ever-growing number of diverse applications. Further, t he networking structures are now very complex and diverse. With this growth comes the requirement for a high-level of service and performance. It is e ssential to be able to offer an integrated management infrastructure, which encompasses a range of platform, structural and geographical boundaries. T his paper examines such network management infrastructures and addresses ke y issues such as TCP/IP network management, as well as issues pertaining to TMN, TINA, Telco and Corporate networks. The paper further examines state- of-the-art technologies such as: managed objects, SNMPv3, CMIP, Q3 interfac es, TMN (Telecommunications Network Management), TINA and policy-based mana gement.
