In 1844, Antoine Gerin-Lajoie published a tragedy entitled Le Jeune Latour
in Le Canadien, a Quebec city newspaper. Publication of a play in a newspap
er, a very rare occurrence, as well as the specific reading code that is in
duced by the configuration of the newspaper as an object, will be the main
focus of this article. Newspaper reading inevitably brings up the problem o
f interference between the multiple discourse that are linked to that media
: in this case, a contextualization of the tragedy and a stage-like product
ion of information. Out of this reconfiguration of meaning brought on by th
e reading of the three numbers in which the tragedy is published emerges a
dialectic opposing the necessity to confront to the desire to conciliate.
