Abstract
The administration of methamphetamine to experimental animals results in da mage to dopaminergic neurons. In the present study, we demonstrated that a single dose (15 mg/kg) of methamphetamine results in production of oxidativ e stress as demonstrated by increased thiobarbituric acid reactive substanc es levels in the rat striatum and prefrontal cortex. In conclusion, the res ults of present study provide further evidence in support of the notion tha t oxidative stress may play an important role in the methamphetamine-induce d neurotoxicity.
