Within the discrete phenomenological model of antiferroelectric liquid crys
tals we calculate the structure of the SmCalpha phase in free standing film
consisting of N smectic layers. A temperature evolution of the structure i
s determined for an example of the hulk SmA <-> SmCalpha <-> SmC phase sequ
ence.
