The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of aryl-; alkenyl-; and cyc
lopropylboronic acids with 4-trifluoromethanesulfonyloxycoumarin provides t
he corresponding 4-substituted coumarins in yields of 63-85%. (C) 2000 John
