Abstract
The influence of a high free-stream turbulent field on a spatially evolving turbulent hat plate boundary layer is investigated using large eddy simula tion (LES) with a dynamic mixed subgrid-scale model. The evolutions of skin friction, heat transfer coefficient, and Row and thermal field are present ed and analyzed. The impact of free-stream turbulence on shear stress and v elocity profiles is minimal, whereas substantial heat transfer augmentation is predicted together with a modification of the temperature profiles in t he logarithmic and wake regions.
