Abstract
Excess molar volumes for ternary pseudo-binary mixtures of [(benzene + chlo roform, or carbon tetrachloride) and (acrylonitrile + chloroform, or carbon tetrachloride)] have been obtained from the densities measured by means of an Anton Paar Model DMA 60/602 vibrating-tube densimeter at T = 298.15 K. Except for the mixtures with mole fraction of chloroform x = 0.7936, whose V-m(E) shows a sigmoid form, and 0.7979 carbon tetrachloride, whose V-m(E) are positive, the V-m(E) values are negative over the entire range of compo sition. For all mixtures, the V-m(E)(extremum value) increases with the inc rease of the mole fractions of chloroform or carbon tetrachloride. The resu lts show the third component, chloroform or carbon tetrachloride, influence the interactions between benzene and acrylonitrile. (C) 2000 Academic Pres s.
