O. Blanke et al., Simple and complex vestibular responses induced by electrical cortical stimulation of the parietal cortex in humans, J NE NE PSY, 69(4), 2000, pp. 553-556
The present study reports on a patient undergoing invasive monitoring for i
ntractable epilepsy who experienced different vestibular sensations after e
lectrical cortical stimulation of the inferior parietal lobule at the anter
ior part of the intraparietal sulcus. Types of vestibular response ranged f
rom simple to complex sensations and depended on stimulation site and appli
ed current. The findings suggest vestibular topography and hierarchical pro
cessing within the parietal vestibular cortex of humans.
