Abstract
This paper describes the requirements for an application programming interf ace (API) server and aspects of service creation and testing in the API env ironment. It then goes on to present elements of a service creation environ ment that aim to address these issues. In the past, service creation enviro nments have been tightly bound to the service control function and other fu nction entities that are part of the intelligent network (IN) infrastructur e. One of the interesting questions raised is whether APIs will have to ado pt close adherence to complex standards for them to be used effectively in the future.
