A general mathematical model with its governing equations in dimension
less forms has been developed to describe the removal of hydrogen sulf
ide with impregnated activated carbon. An approximate relationship bet
ween the sulfur capacity and the reaction time in a single carbon pell
et is obtained, and criterion to ascertain the rate controlling step o
f the process can then be deduced. In the meantime, the choice of the
appropriate oxygen concentration and the principle to be followed are
also described.
