Croton chilensis Mull. Arg. is the only species from the large genus C
roton of the family Euphorbiaceae growing in Chile. The isolation and
identification of one aporphine and three morphinadienone alkaloids, o
ne C-13 terpenoid and two C6-C2 aromatic compounds are reported. This
is the first report on the occurrence of isosalutaridine (1), flavinan
tine (2), O-methylfalvinantine (3), isocorydine (4), vomifoliol (5), t
yrosol (6) and salidroside (7) in Croton chilensis. The structures wer
e elucidated by their physical and spectroscopic data. The chemotaxono
mic relevance of these secondary metabolites is discussed briefly.
