The inhibition mechanism of hindered phenols in polymers and low-molec
ular compounds can be studied by using the procedures developed to stu
dy complicated processes of chain oxidation and inhibition in hydrocar
bon materials. At each temperature (mechanism strongly depends on temp
erature and other factors) the key reactions of antioxidant actions we
re identified and corresponding kinetic parameters determined. The ana
lysis showed how the effectiveness of hindered phenoles changes as a f
unction of temperature.
