The spectrum of an atom in the presence of a laser with time-dependent
frequency is calculated. By using a simple model for the wavefunction
of the atom, calculations show that suitable values of chirping param
eters can be found which can compensate the blueshift observed in rece
nt experiments carried out with time-dependent laser intensity. Spectr
a and their time-dependent evolution are shown in detail for a two-lev
el atom.
