Some special test phenomena for the separation and determination of trace a
nions have been investigated on three different analytical columns by ion c
hromatography. In the presence of high concentrations of chloride, the effe
cts of chloride on the retention time, separation and quantitative analysis
for the other anions were studied. Accurate quantitative analytical method
s and linear ranges were found. When the how-rate of mobile phase changed b
etween 0.6 ml min(-1) and 2.0 ml min(-1), the capacity factors of all anion
s did not change, however, their peak heights had some changes and their pe
ak areas were in inverse proportion to the flow-rate. The sampling volume h
ad no effect on the analysis of Cl-, Br-, NO3-, NO2-, SO42- and HPO42- with
in 1000 mu l. Except for AS 14 column, F- could not be accurately quantitat
ed when the sampling volume was more than 100 mu l. (C) 2000 Elsevier Scien
