The FDTD analysis of multiple arbitrarily shaped posts, including a dielect
ric post, a ferrite post, and a conducting post, in a waveguide is presente
d. The waveguide is terminated by a PML (perfectly matched layer) at its tw
o ports. The posts are placed in the working volume of FDTD lattices. The F
DTD formulation is derived from Maxwell's curl equations within the uniaxia
l medium. In the interior working volume, the uniaxial medium is reduced to
free space. The treatment of the ferrite material is based on the equation
of motion of the magnetization vector. The scattering parameters of multip
le arbitrarily shaped posts in the waveguide are presented, and we compared
with the results from other methods. Good agreement is found. Some new cal
culation results are also presented. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
