Abstract
After pointing out the drastic violation of the U-matrix boundary condition by the conventional quantum-field-theoretical on-mass-shell renormalizatio n of the electron propagator, a new consistent renormalization concept (wit hout mass and charge renormalization) is presented. From the correctly reno rmalized bound-electron propagator (respectively, U-matrix), the natural li ne shape is for the first time, after 50 years, correctly calculated in QFT .
