The structure and optical characteristics of Cu(II) ion complex formed
with bis(2-methacryloyloxyethyl) phosphate (PMOE) were investigated i
n a MMA monomer solution and in its polymerized resin. The complex sho
wed a broad absorption peak at around 840 nm in the monomer solution,
which results from a Jahn-Teller effect. The complex probably formed a
monomeric structure of Cu(II) complex by the coordination of PMOE mol
ecules. The transparent resin polymerized from the monomer solution sh
owed the same optical feature as that of the monomer. It exhibited hig
h transmittance in the range from 350 nn to 700 nm, while it efficient
ly cut off light in the near infrared range from 700 nm to 1200 nm. Cu
(II) ion is considered to form mononuclear complexes with PMOE in the
resin, as well as in monomer solution. The resin having such optical f
eatures will actually be helpful for the adjustment of luminous effici
ency for CCD and camera.
