Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to determine the influence of the VRP on the de viations between raingage and radar measurements at small temporal scales ( less than one hour). The data set used has been recorded during the HIRE ex periment. The differences between radar and raingage measurements, expresse d by a mean relative bias, have been studied and compared to the equivalent one calculated from the observed VRP. At a time step of 5 minutes, the sta tistical distributions are similar and the VRP influence explains 36% of th e deviation (60 % at a 30 minute time step). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
