Abstract
A new de-aliasing algorithm for Doppler velocity radar data is presented. R egions of equal Nyquist number are identified and marked by centroids. Thes e regions are de-aliased using a variational analysis technique forcing the following (weak) constraints to be satisfied: 1) agreement with the genera l flow (from VAD, echo tracking or model wind field), 2) conservation of th e zero velocity line, 3) removal of shear caused by velocity folding and 4) minimization of errors between observations and the linear interpolation a long lines connecting the centroids. First de-aliasing tests with real Dopp ler data in a wind retrieval procedure are promising. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
