COST-717: Use of radar observations in hydrological and NWP models

The main objective of the COST-717 action is the assessment, demonstration and documentation of the contribution that advanced radar information can m ake to parametrization and in model assimilation schemes for NWP and hydrol ogical models. The action, scheduled for the period 1999-2004, is structure d in three working groups for hydrology, parametrization and validation, an d data assimilation. This paper is to give an overview on the action from t he point of view of the Management Committee, illustrating its overall impo rtance, the breadth of its spectrum, as well as to present its time lines.
