Concentration of 25 selected elements in a 2 year old needles of Picea
abies (L.) Karst. and Pinus sylvestris L. from 141 permanent monitori
ng plots (network of 4 x 4 km) from the industrial region of Ziar nad
Hronom are completed with a critical assessment of their content in re
lation to boundary values. 81.4 % of the total variance were explained
with principal component analysis through 8 components. The highest c
oncentrations of Al, Be, Cd, Co, Cr, F, Fe, Hg, Li, Ni, Pb, Sr and V w
ere found in the A pollution zone and apparently they directly connect
with production of aluminium. In the zone B there were increased leve
ls of (sic) Ba, K, Mn, N, Na, Rb, S and Se which can connect with oper
ation of thermal power plant, The highest values of Cu and Zn in C zon
e and Ca and Mg in D zone were found. Correlational analysis of 25 ele
ments from spruce and pine needles from Ziar region was executed provi
ded that the number of high-correlational pairs (r greater than or equ
al to 0.9) leads to an expectation of mutual element reaction. Only hi
gh positively correlable pairs of elements, which are emitted in the p
ollution zone A in the region of alluminium plants were found also in
pollution zone A. In B zone, neither positive nor negative correlated
relation was found among pairs of elements with r higher or equal to /- 0.9. In C zone only a high-positively correlated pair between Be/Co
was found.
