Gh. Noell et al., Programming for the generalization of communication to the classroom following assessment and training outside of the classroom, SCH PSYCH R, 29(3), 2000, pp. 429-442
This study demonstrated a method for integrating in-class and out-of-class
procedures to assess and treat an adaptive behavior deficit. The assessment
and intervention procedures were implemented to teach students to respond
appropriately when they were asked their name. The students were three pres
chool boys whose language development was delayed. Assessment and teaching
procedures were implemented outside the classroom in a multiple baseline de
sign across students. Assessment and training were followed by generalizati
on programming in the classroom. The generalization program consisted of co
ntingent access to an item selected through a preference assessment. All st
udents generalized correct responding to the classroom and maintained respo
nding when the intervention was discontinued. The two students for whom fol
low-up data were obtained continued to say their names three weeks followin
g intervention.
