Ae. Treloar, Applying hypertext and hypermedia to scholarly journals enables both product and process innovation, ACM C SURV, 31, 1999, pp. NIL_10-NIL_14
Early uses of hypertext technologies were associated with scholarly communi
cation. New electronic-only journals have been quick to adopt hypertext/hyp
ermedia technologies. Existing print journals have also started to adopt su
ch technologies as they make the transition to parallel delivery. The wides
pread uptake of the World Wide Web has enabled journals to improve, enhance
and transform what they do. This paper surveys these developments and plac
es them in context.
