A de-SQUID planar gradiometer has been fabricated with YBa2C3O7-delta step-
edge Josephson junctions on a 10 mm X 10 mm single crystal SrTiO3[100] subs
trate. The gradiometer has a pair of pickup loops with an area of 33 mm(2)
and the baseline of 4.5 mm. The system operates well in unshielded environm
ent. A rejection of common mode fields of 1.4 x 10(2) in all directions and
a field gradient sensitivity (white noise) better than 8 pT/cm root Hz at
77 K have been achieved.
