Me. Abdel-hamid, Applications of spectrometric full spectrum quantitation (FSQ) software for multicomponent analysis and stability studies of pharmaceuticals, ANAL LETTER, 33(13), 2000, pp. 2719-2735
A rapid, simple, accurate and specific spectrophotometric procedure for ana
lysis of multi-component mixtures and for assessment of drug stability in p
harmaceutical products has been described. The proposed method relies on th
e application of the spectrophotometric full spectrum quantification (FSQ)
software to overcome severe spectral overlap and to permit measurement of t
he individual components in mixtures with satisfactory degree of accuracy a
nd precision. The potential of FSQ software for multicomponent analysis was
elucidated by analyzing complex mixtures of highly overlapping spectra (as
pirin/caffeine/salicylic acid) and mixtures of structurally similar compoun
ds (cephalexin/ cephradine) and (ceftriaxone/ ceftazidime /cefotaxime). Fur
thermore, the robustness of the FSQ for stability studies was assessed by a
nalyzing chloramphenicol in presence of its alkali-induced degradation prod
ucts and famotidine in presence of its acid-induced degradation products. T
he validity of FSQ software for multicomponent analysis and stability studi
es was evaluated by comparing the results with those of HPLC methods. Stati
stical analysis indicated that the FSQ and HPLC data were consistent, howev
er the FSQ method is faster, easier and more reliable.
