Ma. Metz et Me. Irwin, Revision of Lindneria Krober, with the description of two new genera Insulatitan and Ambradolon, a fossil from Dominican amber (Diptera : Therevidae : Therevinae), ANN ENT S A, 93(5), 2000, pp. 977-1018
A new genus of Therevidae, Ambradolon, is diagnosed from Dominican amber. T
he type species, A. grimaldii, is described based on a single fossil male.
Species of Therevidae possessing putative synagomorphies with A. grimaldii
were identified. A cladistic analysis resolved three additional monophyleti
c genera. A new genus, Insulation, represented by four new species: I. romo
ynae, I. trishae, I. watsoni, and I. youngi and the described genera, Lindn
eria Krober and Penniverpa Irwin & Lyneborg, were also shown to be monophyl
etic lineages. Lindneria was previously represented by a single species, L.
splendida Krober. Psilocephala platyptera Krober is here placed in the gen
us Lindneria. Six new species of Lindneria are described: L. bellingeri, L.
browni, L. dicosta, L. penelopae, L. thompsoni, and L. wintertoni. Psiloce
phnla brunnipennis Krober was recognized as belonging to the genus Penniver
pa Irwin & Lyneborg and is so placed as a new combination.
