Social phobia is a chronic and disabling anxiety disorder. Although it
s pharmacological treatment has not been extensively studied, recent r
eports suggest that social phobia may be treated with monoamine oxidas
e inhibitors, beta-blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, and alprazolam
. A recent study has shown that fluoxetine is also effective in social
phobia, and preliminary results suggest that the same may apply to ot
her serotonin reuptake inhibitors, too. In this paper we describe the
results of citalopram treatment in three patients with social phobia.
