Abstract
Lithium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate [LiB(C5F5)(4)], a neutral salt, e ffectively catalyzed Friedel-Crafts benzylation reactions of aromatic compo unds with benzyl chloride or mesylate and their substituted derivatives. Th e LiB(C6F5)(4)-catalyzed reactions proceeded more efficiently in the coexis tence of magnesium oxide.
