This article reviews three treatments for conduct disorder among children a
n adolescents. The treatments include parent management training, problem-s
olving skills training, and multisystemic therapy. These treatments have th
e strongest empirical support among psychotherapies in use for conduct diso
rder. The conceptual underpinnings, characteristics, outcome evidence, and
strengths and limitations are highlighted for each treatment. Some critical
issues that emerge in providing treatment for conduct disorder include dif
ficulties in retaining cases in treatment, use of treatments that do not wo
rk or that have no evidence in their behalf, and dilemmas raised by combini
ng treatments.
