COLLOIDS AND SURFACES A-PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND ENGINEERING ASPECTS
Applicability of the method used to prepare catalysts characterized by good
uniformity and high dispersion of the active phase - deposition of metals
(Ti, Co, Ni, Cr, Zn and Zr) acetylacetonate complexes and acetylacetone to
obtain complex carbon-silica adsorbents was studied. It was stated that usi
ng acetylacetone as a carbon deposit precursor makes it possible to predict
surface properties (porous structure parameters, carbon deposit amount) of
carbon-silica adsorbents. In the case of metal acetylacetonates prediction
of surface properties of carbon-silica adsorbents prepared from such subst
ances is difficult due to complexity of physicochemical processes taking pl
ace during silica surface modification at the time of their pyrolysis (reac
tions of metal ions with both silica base substrate and pyrolysis products)
. These processes affect significantly porous structure parameters of the o
btained adsorbent as well as its crystallographic structure and carbon depo
sit content. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
